Cookie Policy

What cookies we use, why we use them, and how you can control them.

Last updated: July 2026

This Cookie Policy explains how Thrifty Owl ("we", "us", "our") uses cookies and similar technologies on thriftyowl.money, and the choices you have over them. It should be read alongside our Privacy Policy.

1. What are cookies?

Cookies are small text files placed on your device when you visit a website. They're widely used to make sites work, or work more efficiently, as well as to provide information to the site's owner.

2. How we use cookies

When you first visit Thrifty Owl, you'll see a cookie banner asking you to choose "Accept all" or "Necessary only". Cookies that aren't strictly necessary — currently, our site-monitoring cookies — are only set once you choose "Accept all". You can change your choice at any time using the "Cookie settings" link in the footer.

Strictly necessary cookies

These cookies are required for the site to function and can't be switched off. They're never used for tracking or advertising.

Cookie Purpose Duration
.AspNetCore.Identity.Application Keeps you signed in Session / up to 14 days ("remember me")
.AspNetCore.Correlation.* Protects the "Sign in with GitHub" flow against forgery 15 minutes
.AspNetCore.Antiforgery.* Protects forms (e.g. account settings) against cross-site request forgery Session
.AspNetCore.Mvc.CookieTempDataProvider Carries one-off status messages (e.g. "Saved") between pages Session
.AspNet.Consent Remembers that you accepted non-essential cookies 1 year
mm-cookie-choice Remembers your cookie banner choice, so we don't ask again 1 year

Site-monitoring cookies

With your consent, we use New Relic Browser to monitor front-end errors and performance (e.g. slow page loads or JavaScript errors), so we can find and fix problems. It sets a small number of cookies to group activity from the same browser session together. We do not use it for advertising, and it does not track you across other websites.

Cookie Purpose Duration
NRBA, JSESSIONID Group browser errors/performance events from the same session (New Relic Browser) Session / up to 1 day

If you choose "Necessary only", these cookies are never set and the monitoring script is not loaded.

3. Managing your choice

You can change your cookie choice at any time by selecting Cookie settings in the site footer, which reopens the banner. You can also block or delete cookies using your browser's settings — note that blocking the strictly necessary cookies above will prevent you from signing in.

4. Changes to this policy

We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time, for example if we start using a new cookie. We'll post the updated policy here with a new "Last updated" date.
